A Filipino film will be shown at this year's New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).

The special virtual edition runs from Aug. 28 to Sept. 12, and it will still highlight women both behind and in front of the camera. The NYAFF features a specific focus on women filmmakers: "women transforming film" starting with Janine Gutierrez's film "The Girl And The Gun (Babae At Baril)," the Opening Film.

The story of the psycho-thriller directed by Rae Red, which premiered at the QCinema International Film Festival last year and won Best Director of QCinema 2019, follows a department store saleslady who finds a gun right on her doorstep one night and decides that she has had enough of being the underdog. Her life drastically changes as she discovers how much power owning a gun can give you.

Janine's performance won QCinema’s Best Actress award. The movie also stars Felix Roco, JC Santos, and Elijah Canlas.

On Instagram, Janine expressed excitement over this new achievement.

"Babae at Baril, directed by QCinema International Film Festival Best Director @raeredcc, will be the opening film at the New York Asian Film Festival 2020 So excited and soo fffffing wish we could actually go to NY for the North American premiere at the NYAFF but, nonetheless congrats to the team!," she wrote.
