A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck Batanes on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
The earthquake, which occurred at 6:32 a.m., was tectonic in origin and was traced 49 kilometers southwest of Sabtang, Batanes. It had a depth of 14 km.
Phivolcs said the quake was not expected to cause any damage to property. However, aftershocks are likely to happen.
