The number of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country has topped 143,000, the Department of Health (DoH) reported Wednesday.

The DoH case bulletin revealed that 4,444 new people were confirmed to have caught the respiratory illness, raising the country’s total caseload to 143,749, with 72,348 patients still receiving treatment.

Ninety-three more patients have succumbed to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 2,404. Recoveries increased to 68,997 after 636 new patients got well.

The State health agency noted that of the 93 deaths, 13 occurred this month, 49 in July, 30 in June, and one in May.

“There were 231 duplicates that were removed from the total case count, Of these, nine recovered cases and one death have been removed,” the DoH said.

“In addition, two cases were found to be negative and were removed from the total case count after final validation. Moreover, we updated the health status of the 62 cases that were previously reported as recovered but after final validation, they were deaths (60) and active (2) cases,” it added.

Meanwhile, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the suggested retail price (SRP) for face shield products will likely be available within this week.

“Nagpagawa kami ng informal lang naman or local survey, parang study on the market kung magkano talaga ‘yung inoofer na prices among the different big drug stores. Also looking at online na mga bentahan para makita natin range ng prices na meron tayo (We just did an informal or local survey on the market how much the prices are really offered among the different big drug stores. Also looking at prices online so we can see the range of prices we have),” said Vergeire.

Vergeire said that they will submit their recommendation on the SRP for face shield based on the local survey to the Department of Trade and Industry.

“We will be submitting na rin immediately dyan sa DTI para pag- aaralan din nila. Pagde-desisyunan and then within the week lalabas ang SRP ng faceshields (We will be submitting immediately to the DTI for them to study as well. It will be decided, then within the week , the SRP for face shields will be released),” said Vergeire.
