MV Ocean Abundance, as owned by  Oceanic Container Lines Incorporated and with 5593 gross tonnage, was said to have rammed into the port at about 3:10 a.m. with the reverse mechanism of the vessel malfunctioning.

The Coast Guard said the incident happened when the cargo vessel was arriving at the Pier 2 in Manila from Iloilo.

Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago said the shipping company will pay for the damages at Pier 2 -- the estimated value of which is still being ascertained.

The vessel sustained damages on its bow and port, but there was no trace of oil spill in the area.

“Personnel of the Coast Guard Sub-station–North Harbor continue to monitor the incident for further progress reports,” the Coast Guard added.
