Customs, NBI arrest money collector for alleged extortion

The Bureau of Customs Intelligence Group (BOC-IG) and the members of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently apprehended a known extortion money collector in an entrapment operation in Manila.

Acting on a complaint lodged through the BOC's 8484 text hotline, the Intelligence Group and the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service conducted an entrapment operation against a certain "shonti" who was identified as a non- contractual handyman in the BOC in 2016.

The agency, however, did not provide further details about the suspect’s identity.

The suspect was arrested in Malate, Manila, where he was caught in possession of the P40,000 marked money used as bait for the arrest.

Several brokers, processors, and importers were invited to the NBI office for verification and interview to shed light on the investigation.
