The Department of Foreign Affairs on Friday reported 18 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, one new death and 19 new recoveries among Filipinos abroad, bringing the total number of cases among Filipinos worldwide to 9,710.

In a report, the DFA said the new confirmed cases and new recoveries were from Asia and the Pacific and Europe while the new fatality was recorded in the Asia Pacific region.

Of the total, 5,756 have recovered, 3,251 are still undergoing treatment, and 703 have died due to infection from the virus.

With regards to the development in Lebanon, the Philippines is still weighing the option to send a quick reaction team to Beirut in the aftermath of the deadly explosion that killed more than a hundred people, including four Filipinos, and injuring thousands of others. Thirty-one other Filipinos were injured in the massive explosions, two of them are said to be in critical condition.

“To my mind, this would also depend on the recommendation of our embassy and the practical considerations of probable quarantine for anyone sent from Manila,” DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez told reporters.
