Retired Comelec Commissioner Borra passes away at age 84


Former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Resurreccion Borra passed away Saturday at the age of 84.

In a text message, Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said Borra died due to heart attack.

The poll official asked everyone to pray for Borra whom he described as an "excellent civil servant."

"Let’s all say a prayer for the peaceful repose of the soul of Commissioner Rex Borra -- an excellent civil servant, an uncompromising champion of the Comelec, and a dear friend to the rank and file," said Jimenez in his Twitter account @jabjimenez.

Borra was appointed poll commissioner in 2001 by then President Gloria M. Arroyo.

He served as Comelec chairman following the resignation of Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. in 2007.

Borra retired in February 2008.
