Gov. Chiz tells DOH: Don't ride out COVID-19, fight it in proactive way

Sorsogon Gov. Francis "Chiz" Escudero said the Department of Health (DOH) should lead the country’s fight against the COVID pandemic in a “proactive way” and “not simply be content in reporting out statistics.”

“I think the DOH is just ‘riding out’ COVID-19 until a vaccine is invented," Escudero tweeted on Tuesday.

He said that he does not "see nor feel" any "active or serious" efforts from the DOH to address the pandemic.

The former senator also encouraged the public to demand more from the country’s leaders.

“The ‘it could have been worse’ argument is actually a fallacy designed to make people feel good and contented with whatever is given them,” Escudero tweeted.

“We can and should demand more from our leaders who I believe can and will do more! Di na dapat pwede ang pwede na…(We should no longer accept mediocre solutions),” the Sorsogon governor added.

As of July 28, the number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 83,673, nearing the University of the Philippines’ prediction of 85,000 by the end of July.
