DFA reports surge in COVID-19 infections among Filipinos abroad


The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Wednesday reported a significant increase in the number of confirmed COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) involving Filipinos abroad after it recorded 87 new cases, 11 deaths and 35 recoveries in the latest figures from various foreign service posts worldwide. 
 
Latest data pertaining to new confirmed cases and recoveries among overseas Filipinos were gathered from Asia and the Pacific, Europe, and Middle East/Africa while the new fatalities were recorded in the Middle East.
 
The DFA did not receive new reports from the Americas.
 
To date, the total number of confirmed cases among overseas Filipinos is 9,392. Of which, 5,461 have recovered, 3,265 are undergoing treatment while 666 have died from COVID-19 infection. 
 
Meanwhile Philippine Embassy in Singapore has successfully organized its eighth repatriation flight on Monday that brought home 325 Filipinos to Manila amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
 
This brings the total number of repatriated Filipinos from Singapore to 1,739 since repatriation flights were organized in April.

The flight also carried 600 units of oxygen concentrators donated by Temasek Foundation to the Philippines as part of its assistance for Philippine’s COVID-19 response.
