One-month old infant among 46 new cases in Davao region


DAVAO CITY - A one-month old baby girl was among those who tested positive for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Davao region.

Based on the profile released by the Department of Health Davao Center for Health Development Friday afternoon, the infant was from Barangay Tamayong in Calinan District, Davao City. The baby had the onset of symptoms on July 19.

She was among the 46 new cases recorded as of 5 p.m. of Thursday, July 23. The health department said investigation was still ongoing as to her history of exposure.

The DOH said that, of the latest cases, "34 were from Davao City, five were from Davao del Sur, four from Davao de Oro, two from Davao Oriental and one from Davao del Norte."

Three other children were found positive with the virus, including a nine-year-old boy and a 14-year-old boy from Sasa, Davao City. The other child was a 14-year-old girl from Barangay Subasta in Calinan district.

The oldest patient, who tested positive, was a 70-year-old man from Barangay Tacunan here.

The DOH said the total number of active cases in the region was at 446.

It added that six of the latest cases were locally stranded individuals (LSI), three were returning overseas Filipinos (ROF), and 33 were local cases. The DOH noted that they were still verifying the history of exposure of four other individuals.

Meanwhile, one fatality was also recorded on Thursday after a 52-year-old woman died on July 22. The woman from Barangay 76-A Talomo North in Davao City was admitted on July 9.

The number of COVID-19 deaths in the region was now at 44, of which, 36 were from Davao City.

The DOH said 16 recoveries, including that of a 9-year old boy from San Antonio, Agdao District here.
