Mandaluyong City Councilor Charisse Marie Abalos-Vargas on Thursday confirmed she tested positive for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on her Facebook page, days after her grandparents, former Commission on Elections (COMELEC) chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. and his wife, Corazon were found positive for the disease.
“I’m sad to say that I tested positive for COVID-19. Okay naman ang pakiramdam ko (I am feeling fine),” Abalos-Vargas said.
“Last week, ako ay na stress, napuyat, nalungkot sa dinaranas ni Lolo Ben and Mama Cora. Hanggang sa nagising akong parang May bara sa ilong pero walang sipon (Last week, I was stressed, lacked sleep, and sad about what Grandpa Ben and Mama Cora were going through. Until I woke up with a stuffy nose but have no colds) I couldn’t smell anything and I couldn’t taste anything. That was my red flag,” she added.
The city councilor said she immediately went into isolation and got herself tested.
“For now I can only hope and pray that no other symptoms appear. And that I didn’t infect my babies,” she said, adding that her children will also be tested on Friday.
On July 17, Abalos-Vargas confirmed to Manila Bulletin that her grandparents have contracted COVID-19.
“Chairman Ben Abalos and his wife, Corazon Abalos, have just tested positive for COVID. We are now conducting tracing. For now we would like to ask for privacy and prayers,” she had earlier said.
It was not immediately clear how the Abalos couple contracted the virus.
