ITCZ to continue to bring rains to most parts of PH

The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), or the converging of winds coming from the northeast and southeast which triggers thunderstorms and rain showers, will continue to affect most parts of the country on Friday.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday that the ITCZ will bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, Western and Central Visayas.

PAGASA weather specialist Meno Mendoza said flash floods or landslides are possible in areas affected by the ITCZ due to moderate, to at times, heavy rains.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to ITCZ and localized thunderstorms which could also bring flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

According to Mendoza, hot and humid weather will prevail in most parts of the country especially during the morning until noon while isolated rain showers are expected during the afternoon to evening.

Meanwhile, sea conditions will be light to moderate this weekend, and fisherfolk using small boats can set sail as no gale warning has been raised, he said.

Mendoza added that there is no weather disturbance being monitored within and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) in the next two to three days.

The weather agency recently said that two to four tropical cyclones may enter PAR this July but they are not expected to directly affect the country.

Earlier this month, Tropical Depression "Carina" entered PAR, the first tropical cyclone to hit the country this July and the third for 2020 after Typhoon Ambo (Vongfong) in May, and Tropical Storm Butchoy (Nuri) in June.

Based on historical records, PAGASA said an average of 20 tropical cyclones are expected to enter PAR each year.

PAGASA announced last month the onset of the rainy season.
