ABS-CBN, Lopezes continue to trend on Twitter

Media giant ABS-CBN and its owners, the Lopez family, continue to trend on Twitter days after Congress voted to quash the network’s bid for a new franchise.

On Wednesday, the company started calling in some employees, reportedly including media personalities Korina Sanchez-Roxas and Ces Drilon, to inform them they would be losing their jobs come August.

Majority of netizens expressed sympathy over the situation, urging the company’s employees
to keep up the fight using the hashtag #IbalikAngPrangkisaNgABSCBN.

A netizen using the handle @MarianNonatura tweeted, “You are strong. You are capable of going through anything. All you really have to do is believe, that is the key. TULOY ANG LABAN KAPAMILYA (Keep up the fight, Kapamilya).”

“Ang ABS-CBN ay isang halimbawa ng isang pakay na pamilya. Dumaraan sa matitinding pagsubok, ngunit patuloy na lumalaban (ABS-CBN is an example of a family of purpose. It passes severe trials, but continues to fight),” added a netizen using the handle @kp_nation2.

Some gave advice to the Lopezes, such as Twitter user @ynallim: “To the Lopezes. Please don’t sell, just park it, stay afloat, lalaban tayo sa 2022 (we will fight in 2022). Let them get the frequency they want, it’s nothing without the equipment and content. Mas magiging powerful sila (They will become more powerful) if you give them everything and you’ll lose the network forever.. Laban lang (Just keep fighting)!”

User @virgo_05 does not agree, blaming the Lopezes for the shutdown, writing, “Blame the Lopezes, not the government. They are doing their jobs. When they’re not doing their jobs, you rant and bash them. The Lopezes are greedy for money and their employees are now paying the [price]. Sad but they need to get on with their lives.”

The statement was refuted by @hellobells19 who credited the Lopezes for making ABS-CBN what it is today. “ABS-CBN will never be ABS-CBN if not for the Lopezes. ABS-CBN is Lopez. The Lopezes created the content of ABS-CBN. The Lopezes love to listen to their viewers. Employees work with them because they love working with them. People, it is not just a network,” she said.

@DiamondStarNews also tweeted, “It took so many decades for ABS-CBN to develop its content, develop talents, hone on the skills and develop people. Its strength are the people that worked and partnered with them. That takes years to build. Respect.”
