One Direction is celebrating their 10th anniversary by debuting a website charting the group’s history.
The special 1D anniversary website will go live on July 23, the exact date of the 10th anniversary of the band’s formation.
According to Simon Jones PR, the site will feature the history of the group, from the first audition up to the start of their hiatus; and it will host an archive of music videos, artwork, TV performances, behind-the-scenes, and rarely-seen content.
“To celebrate this date, alongside the fan frenzy, there will be a brand new 1D anniversary website, a 10 year celebration video especially made for their fans, and interactive playlists, and activations across digital platforms,” the public relations company said.
Fans will be able to generate their own shareable “mixtape” playlist on the site, and allow them to connect to Spotify or Apple Music.
Reformatted EPs will be released across streaming platforms, featuring b-sides, rare songs, remixes, live recordings, and acoustic versions of tracks.
A brand new anniversary celebration video will be released on Youtube the same day. The video will document highlights of One Direction’s career from forming on “The X Factor” to releasing their single “History.”
It was in 2010 that Liam Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik were put together to form One Direction on The X Factor. After the show, the pop band released a number of Top 10 hits like “What Makes You Beautiful” and “Story of My Life.”
The English-Irish band sold over 200 million records worldwide, with over 21 billion streams across all streaming platforms.
In 2015, Malik announced his decision to leave the band. Styles, Tomlinson, Payne, and Horan made the decision to extend their hiatus later that year. Each of the singers have since launched solo careers.
