TACLOBAN City – Eastern Visayas has the highest recovery rate from coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the country at 93 percent, according to the Department of Health in Region 8 (DOH-8).
Of its 656 cases, 610 have already recovered from the disease, with 43 active cases.
These include 103 of 104 health workers and DOH-8 employees who were infected but have recovered from the infection.
DOH-8 also clarified that there was no second generation transmission of COVID-19 cases among health workers in the region.
The department said 92 percent of the cases were asymptomatic, seven percent experienced mild symptoms, with three, or .05 percent, deaths.
The health department added that over 75 percent of the cases were acquired outside the region, while the rest were locally transmitted.
Meanwhile, it also reported three new cases, two locally stranded individuals (LSIs) from Calbiga, Samar (Patients EV 654 and EV 655) who came from Manila; and Patient EV 656, a 21-year-old female from Tacloban City.
Initial investigation revealed that it was a possible local transmission since there was no established history of travel but with a possible history of exposure to a confirmed case. She is a post-partum patient admitted at the Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center (EVRMC) located in this city.
