BUTUAN CITY – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude-4.6 earthquake in Pacific Ocean facing town of Surigao del Sur province on Tuesday night, July 14.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter of the tremor was detected 18 kilometers southeast of Cortes town at 8:59 p.m.
The tectonic earthquake had a depth of 26 kms from the surface.
Intensity III was also registered at the town proper of Cortes, in nearby municipality of Lanuza, and city of Tandag while Intensity ll in Carmen town, all of Surigao del Sur province and Intensity 1 also recorded in Surigao City, Surigao del Norte province.
No aftershock or tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.
The Surigao del Sur provincial disaster risk reduction and management council (PDRRMC) there also reported no damage or injury.
