Police, army in hot pursuit of NPAs in Surigao City

BUTUAN CITY – Units of the Army’s 901st Infantry Brigade, and the Surigao City Police Station (SCPS) on Tuesday were reported to be in hot pursuit of New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists, who allegedly killed two barangay tanods in Tabasingan, Barangay Mat-i, Surigao City.

SCPS City Director Lt. Col. Christian L. Rafols ll mobilized the city mobile force, and the police station in Mat-i to take blocking positions along the possible escape route of the CNTs.

“We are helping one another (with the Army) to get the criminals (CNTs),” stressed the SCPS chief, in a phone interview with The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.

These came after barangay tanods Apole Estampa, 48, and Jandy Ampal Limbona, 23, were allegedly killed by the NPAs around 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 11.

The victims, along with five farmers, were in their respective farmlands in Tabasingan area when the Communist terrorists arrived.

The victims were killed after being shot from close range in different parts of their bodies without any provocation, initial investigation police report said.

Responding police team found in the scene of the incident several fired cartridges of .45 caliber pistol.

Motive of the incident was still being determined by the police station in the area.
