For fiscal year 2018, a budget of P73.93-billion budget has been proposed for national government agencies and state universities and colleges (SUCs) in Western Visayas region.

This was after the Regional Development Council (RDC-6) endorsed it during its first quarter meeting in Iloilo City last week.

Ro-Ann Bacal, regional director of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and acting RDC-6 chairperson, said bulk of the proposed budget is for national government agencies.

Of the P73.9 billion, at least P66.78 billion is for government agency’s programs in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces. The remaining P7.15 billion are for 11 SUCs across the region.

In the State of the Region Report, Bacal underscored that there has been a steady growth of the regional economy. She reiterated there was an 8.3 percent growth of the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) in 2015 and 95.1 percent employment rate in 2016.

RDC-6 also approved the five-year development plan for 2017-2022.
