Chinese top Boracay foreign tourists

Aklan—For the first two months of the year, the Chinese dominated the foreign tourist arrivals in world-famous resort island of Boracay in Malay, Aklan province.

Julfe Rabe, information officer of the Caticlan Jetty Port, said there were 40,036 Chinese tourists who visited Boracay from January-February 2017.

It is followed by South Koreans with 37, 511 and Taiwanese with 5, 126.

This was a break from the trend of the past several years when South Koreans consistently held the number 1 spot.

After President Rodrigo Duterte’s friendly stance with China, Port Administrator Niven Maquirang earlier anticipated the increase in arrivals of Chinese tourists.

Boracay’s other top foreign arrivals included United States with 3,201; Russia with 2,283; United Kingdom with 1,974; Australia with 1,727; Malaysia with 1,675; Canada with 1,368 and Sweden with 1,244.
