Cagayan records 1st COVID-19 death

CAGAYAN – A health official here has confirmed Cagayan’s first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) death.

Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) Chief Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao confirmed that a COVID-19 patient of the hospital died around 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12.

He said the patient, tagged CV-117, was a 49-year old man from Cagumitan, Tuao, Cagayan, who was admitted in CVMC last July 5 as a suspect case of the virus.

CV-117 was already in critical condition when he was admitted at CVMC, and was found to have diabetes and kidney ailment. Before he was admitted, the patient was reported to have frequent bouts of vomiting and had become so weak.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 after his second swab test.


His remains were ordered buried within 12 hours after death.
