In rare instance, GMA Network aired the messages of the executives of their direct competitor ABS-CBN after the latter’s franchise renewal bid was denied by the House Committee on Legislative Franchises.
The videotaped messages of ABS-CBN President & CEO Carlo Katigbak and ABS-CBN Chairman Mark Lopez were aired on “24 Oras” on July 10.
Mark said he will always remember July 10 as “sad day” for the ABS-CBN family and the Filipinos who were hoping for its return on-air.
Additionally, GMA aired a live coverage of the candlelight ceremony of staff and crew of the network and their supporters.
Mahalaga ito sa akin dahil buhay natin ito, eh,” said comedian-actor-host Vice Ganda in an interview with GMA-7’s Mariz Umali and other news reporters.
Recall that yesterday, the vote, 70 against the franchise bid and 11 in favor, ended ABS-CBN’s bid to return on the air after it stopped operations on May 4, the day its previous 25-year congressional franchise expired.
