Malacañang on Thursday urged government critics to wait for the elections in 2022 and focus on COVID-19.

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said people should set aside politics and unite to face a common enemy.

“Uulitin ko lang ang panawagan ni Presidente, isantabi muna po natin ang pulitika. May panahon po para sa lahat, ngayon po tutukan po muna natin ang COVID-19,” he said.

Roque said Duterte’s critics should wait for the elections and them that there was a bigger problem at hand.

“Doon sa mga namumulitika, eh huhusgahan naman po siguro sila ng taumbayan. Dahil ngayon po talaga hindi po iyan panahon (The public will be the ones to judge those who are politicizing the issue because now is really not the time),” he said.

“Antayin po natin habang papalapit ang eleksiyon, pero sa ngayon po tutukan muna natin itong COVID-19 (Let’s just wait for the elections but for now, let’s focus on the pandemic),” he added.

Last month, President Duterte appealed to the people, particularly the local government officials, to stop blaming each other about their situation.

“‘Wag nalang tayong magsisihan kasi nandyan na rin ‘yan (Let’s not blame each other because we’re already in this situation anyway),” he said.

He said the situation will only worsen if even local officials will point their fingers at one another.

“If you solve the problem locally amongst the officials there, there’s bound to be a derailment in the programs of government because they will start to blame each other,” Duterte said.

“Nobody would try to introduce noble ideas or even to implement one that is already – a measure that is already proven efficacy kasi nagsisisihan na (because they will already be blaming each other),” he added.
