CEBU CITY—More than 30 personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard District Central Visayas (PCG-7) have been infected with coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

Lt. Jr. Grade Erick Salcedo, spokesperson of PCG 7, said the number of infected PCG-7 personnel grew to 31 after test results that was released Monday night showed that 13 personnel were COVID-19 positive.

Salcedo said an initial 18 personnel were found to be COVID-19 positive that prompted the PCG 7 to conduct mass testing among its personnel.

“Most likely they caught the disease while on their tour of duty,” said Salcedo.

Salcedo added that two out of the 31 infected already tested negative in their second swab test.

“The remaining 29 are now in designated quarantine facilities. Only 14 out of the 29 are symptomatic exhibiting mild symptoms of the disease,” Salcedo said.

Salcedo said operations at PCG 7 remained unhampered as it continued to deploy its personnel in seaports, airport and road checkpoints.
