The NOTAM stated that Surigao airport is open for commercial operations starting today, February 23 at 6:00 a.m.
CAAP Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo stated that some 1,000 meters of the 1,700-meter runway was declared safe in accommodating aircraft. However, it is limited to turboprops such as Q4s and ATRs, according to GMA News.
The airport was reopened following Department of Transportation’s inspection, headed by Secretary Arthur Tugade.
CAAP claimed that in nine months, the runway is expected to be fully restored.
Surigao Airport was declared closed by the CAAP on February 11 due to damages caused by the 6.7-magnitude earthquake that hit Surigao on February 10.
