BACOLOD CITY – Two persons were killed, while six others, including an 11-year-old child, were injured after a car hit a house, and slammed into two trees in Purok Mainugyunon, Barangay Napoles, Bago City, Negros Occidental on Sunday.
Police identified the fatalities as Ronald Sudoy of Barangay Calumangan, and Jomarie Guco, 38, of Barangay Napoles.
Wounded were Joseph Bagatela, 42, of Barangay Villamonte here; his cousins – Raffy Jalea, 28, and Rommel Jalea, 41; and friends – Jojet Quilantang, 38, and Judy Abello, 29, all residents of Bago City.
Maj. John Joel Batusbatusan, city police chief, said that Bagatela, who was reportedly drunk, was driving the sedan, along with six companions on their way home from a piggery at around 11 p.m. when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle, and swerved at the roadside, hitting a concrete house.
Batusbatusan said that the child inside the residence suffered minor injuries when he was hit by small stones from the impact of the accident.
After damaging the wall of the house, the vehicle also slammed into a mango then a mahogany trees, where it finally came to a stop.
Sudoy and Guco were declared dead at a hospital due to severe injuries while the five wounded individuals were brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) here.
The city police chief also said that the vehicle was overloaded with passengers, defying physical distancing measures being implemented amid the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
He said they were waiting for the decision of the victims regarding the filing of charges against Bagatela.
