Taguig to designate ‘exercise safe zones’

The Taguig City government will designate “exercise safe zones” or areas where people can sweat it out under strict monitoring of health and safety protocols amid the continuing threat of coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

On Saturday (July 4), the city government started deploying personnel along Bayani Road in the Heritage Memorial Park area, a popular spot for jogging, cycling and aerobics among Taguig residents.

The site is one of the exercise safe zones in the city like the Taguig Lakeshore complex and the 3.5-km C6 Bike Lane in Bgy. Lower Bicutan.

Taguig will be making Bayani Road an exercise safe zone after receiving reports that people failed to comply with health protocols. Personnel at safe zones will ensure the strict compliance of health protocols.

A team at the Heritage Memorial Park area on Saturday gave free masks and drinks to people doing workouts.

The city government will place signages in sites to remind the public of the health measures in place and designate police and city employees to inform people politely about possible violations. It will set up stations for regular monitoring, bike repair and help desks at designated safe zones.

It also started distributing bikes to health centers. The bikes will be lent to health workers so they can have a more convenient and sustainable mode of transportation from home to work.

“We encourage the private sector to collaborate with the government so that, together, we can ensure that citizens are protected from COVID-19. In the new normal, it is important that our people understand that the disease remains a threat. We must all work together,” said Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano.
