2 nabbed in PDEA drug-bust in Cebu cemetery


The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on Friday said that two brothers were arrested, and P748,000 worth of shabu was seized in a drug-bust in a cemetery at the height of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) being imposed in Cebu City on Thursday night.

Joint PDEA and police operatives identified the suspects as Dante T. Fernandez, 44, caretaker of the cemetery and his brother Danilo T. Fernandez Jr., 40, laborer.

The operatives conducted a drug sting at around 9:15 p.m. where the Fernandez siblings were considered high value targets (HVT).

During the raid at Barangay Carreta, the team confiscated 12 packs of suspected shabu weighing more or less 110 grams, cash amounting to P2,300, buy-bust money, one self-sealing plastic container and one ice cream container.

The brothers are now facing charges for violation of Sections 5 (sale of illegal drugs), 26 (conspiracy), and 11 (possession of illegal drugs), Article II of RA 9165.

A day earlier, the PDEA Cavite Provincial Office and the local police dismantled a drug den in Barangay Salawag, Dasmariñas in the province where seven suspects were arrested and illegal drugs worth P102,000 were seized.

PDEA operatives identified the suspects as Dexter Empeño, 19, construction worker; Leonard Duazo, 39; Gilbert Santiago, 38, dispatcher; John Lloyd Macalino, 21, construction worker; Alex Gaddi, 19, construction worker; Veronica Mamaril, Osorio, 29 and Maricel Tolosa, 30.

Also confiscated during the 6:30 p.m. raid were various drug paraphernalia and P200 buy-bust money.
