The local bourse surged yesterday as investors regained optimism over the battle against COVID-19 and its impact on economies here and overseas.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) jumped 154.37 points, or 2.49 percent, to 6,364.08 although the Mining and Oil sector retreated.

Volume rose to 761 million shares worth P7.35 billion as gainers beat losers 132 to 61 with 46 unchanged

“Philippine shares rallied in low volume to start the 3rd quarter on a high on stimulus, positive trends in the virus, reopening of economics and a hope of a vaccine,” said Regina Capital Development Corporation Managing Director Luis Limlingan.
