196 liquor ban violators arrested in Davao City


DAVAO CITY - Authorities here arrested 196 individuals for selling and drinking alcoholic beverages since the community quarantine started in March due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio had earlier informed the public that selling and drinking alcoholic beverages are prohibited to avoid gatherings. This is in line with the city's social distancing policy and health guidelines.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Col. Kirby John Kraft told the media that the city is serious in the implementation of the liquor ban, adding that the DCPO, with the Vices Regulation Unit (VRU) continues to arrest violators.

“We received tips from various Dabawenyos that led to the arrest of these individuals. We Actually encourage more Dabawenyos to inform us if they see people violating the liquor ban,” Kraft said.

He said cooperation from the public is important these days to help curb the transmission of COVID-19. 

VRU head Dr. Ashley Lopez said that they have been monitoring online sellers of alcoholic beverages. The liquor ban has been in force since April 6.
