The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will begin the weekly disinfection of its offices every Friday, starting on July 3 to help stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

To give way for the weekly disinfection and decontamination activities, the poll body said there will be no transactions with the public in all offices and departments of the Comelec located in Intramuros, Manila every Friday.

The Comelec said these include their Main Office at the Palacio del Gobernador, and the Offices of the Regional Election Director (ORED) of National Capital Region (NCR), Region IV-A and Region IV-B at the FEMII Building.

In a statement, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said all concerned buildings, facilities, and office vehicles must undergo proper disinfection and decontamination to "ensure the safety of our personnel and the public we serve."

"In light of this, we would like to assure the public that the delivery of services will not be hampered as we do our part in preventing the further spread of the virus," he said on Tuesday.

"For any question or concern, the Comelec may be reached through its official Facebook (facebook.com/comelec.ph) and Twitter (@comelec) accounts," he added.

Last month, the Comelec announced that all its offices will be instituting a "No Face-to-Face Transactions" policy with the phased resumption of its operations to ensure the safety of the public.

It said that all transactions with the public will be done via letter, email, or fax only.

The Comelec said there will only be a skeleton force in all its offices to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission.
