Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año said on Monday that the national government will provide the necessary assistance to Cebu City in the fight against the coronavirus diseases (COVID-19) and warned that strict quarantine protocols will remain in place in the city which has been reverted to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until June 30.
The DILG chief said that the government’s main focus now is on areas under ECQ and modified ECQ.
Año said additional police officers were deployed in Cebu City due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the locality.
The DILG has also coordinated with the Cebu City government, regional health offices, and other concerned agencies battling the disease in the area.
Año appealed to Cebu City residents to stay home as much as possible, avoid clustering, observe proper hygiene, and adhere to physical distancing when going out for essential errands.
He said people should not look at the strict enforcement of quarantine protocols as punishment but a preventive measure. He added that the virus can easily spread among people in clusters.
