LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – A fish vendor was killed, while a police officer sustained stab wounds, after the two reportedly figured in a personal duel at the breakwater of Brgy. 27, Victory Village, Legazpi City on Thursday night.
Albay Police Provincial Office (PPO) spokesperson Captain Dexter Panganiban identified the fish vendor as Hermel Atos, 50, while the police officer was Police Senior Master Sergeant (PSMS) Ervin Dalde, 45, both residents of Barangay 27, Victory Village.
Initial investigation disclosed that while Atos and his brother Barangay Councilor Joselito Atos were roasting a fish, a heated argument ensued between Joselito and the policeman.
According to Panganiban, Hermel first left his brother while arguing with Dalde, but returned to join the verbal tussle that led to a commotion.
“Then, Joselito suddenly heard successive gunshots,” Panganiban said.
Hermel sustained gunshot wounds that resulted in his death, while Dalde sustained stab wounds in the right abdomen and left armpit, and was immediately brought to hospital for medical treatment.
Recovered from the area were five fired cartridges cases of an unknown weapon, two Glock magazines each loaded with 17 pieces live ammunition, a bolo measuring 40 centimeters, and other personal belongings of Hermel.
Investigation still ongoing relative to the incident.
