June 19: Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

By Christina Hermoso

Archdiocese of Manila Apostolic Administrator Bishop Broderick S. Pabillo will preside over a high mass at 12:15 p.m. on June 19, at the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in San Antonio Village, Makati City, in celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

The holy mass as well as the 7:30 a.m. mass will be streamed live. A mass will also be held at 6 p.m. Only ten mass attendees will be allowed inside the church in each mass. Those who will not be accommodated may join the celebration outside the shrine where speakers will be installed or online for the first two masses.

The imposition of scapulars, the Act of Reparation, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be observed in many churches today.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart is a most beautiful sign of gratitude for Jesus’ redeeming love and mercy. To this day, this devotion continues to grow and deepen among pious Filipino Catholics.

Jesus, Himself, gave instructions to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, the Apostle of the Sacred Heart, on how the faithful can offer sacrifices in reparation for the offenses inflicted on His Sacred Heart.

These include receiving Holy Communion every first Friday of the month, an hour vigil every Thursday night in memory of His agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, and by celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart every year on the Friday after the Feast of Corpus Christi.
