“May napakabait po na tao na ayaw magpakilala ang pumasok sa aking opisina at inabot po ang 40k cash bilang tulong sa nasunugan po sa ating palengke (A very kind person who doesn’t want to be identified went to my office and handed over P40,000 cash as financial assistance for those affected by the market fire),” Mayor Randy Salamat wrote on his Facebook page.

“Maraming salamat po at si Lord na po ang bahala na magbalik sa inyo ng biyayang ito (Thank you very much and may the Lord return the blessing to you),” he added.

The municipal government has set up tents in the area to be used as temporary stalls for vendors who were affected by the fire.

Salamat encouraged his constituents to support the vendors’ dry goods businesses as they try to recover from the loss.

The blaze started around 9 p.m. on Saturday (June 13) and reached the fifth alarm before it was put out at 12:29 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the initial investigation, the flames were caused by an electrical short circuit from a water heater.
