Four fire volunteers were injured after the fire truck that they were riding collided with a 14-wheeler trailer truck in Ermita, Manila Thursday (June 18).
Police identified the fire volunteers as Francis Dayandayanan, 37; Athan Jake Dayandayanan, 16; Nile Peralta, 20; Joan Santos, 26; and the truck driver as Marck Anthony Tabayan.
According to a police report, the fire truck from Caloocan was traversing westward along United Nations (UN) Avenue while the trailer truck was traveling southward along San Marcelino Street.
Upon reaching the corner of San Marcelino Street and UN Avenue at around 1 a.m., the two vehicles collided, and the fire truck skidded off the road for a few meters and then toppled sideways, pinning Athan to the ground.
A forklift was used to lift the part of the truck that crushed the 16-year-old volunteer.
The fire volunteers were brought to Manila Medical Center for medical treatment.
Tabayan is now under police custody and will be facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injuries and damage to property.
Investigation is ongoing.
