The Chinese embassy in Manila on Monday announced the donation of 3.075 million kilograms of rice to the Philippines for distribution to families most affected by the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic.

In a statement, the Chinese embassy said shipments have been delivered to ports of Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro in three separate batches through the facilitation of the Department of Finance, the Department of Budget and Management, and the Bureau of Customs.

“The Embassy is happy to learn that the above-mentioned rice has been allocated by the relevant local government units to families most adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as a major part of the family food packs, benefiting about 500,000 Filipino families,” it said.

Further, the Chinese government assured that it will provide the donation of another 6.725 million kilograms of rice to the Philippines “in due course” to support the Philippines in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and help Filipinos in their trying times.
