Top Rank has advised the camp of reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) super-flyweight titlist Jerwin Ancajas of a spot in a show being lined up in August.
Assured of an appearance by Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum, the ball is now in Team Ancajas’ hands for the fighter and his team to arrange a flight to the US the soonest possible time.
Sean Gibbons, who runs the affairs of Ancajas, is upbeat that a few calls to luminaries in the coming days should pave the way for his departure from Manila to Las Vegas, where Arum has scheduled twice-weekly events in the next couple of months.
Just this past week, Arum staged two behind-closed-doors cards at the MGM Grand with the Nevada Athletic Commission making sure safety measures were strictly followed.
This Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), it will be the turn of Filipino fighter Mike Plania to appear in the landmark promotions being undertaken by the 88-year-old Arum.
Ancajas was supposed to make the ninth defense of the IBF 115-lb title last April at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas but the coronavirus pandemic cancelled it as the entire world went into lockdown mode.
Last time he was in the ring, Ancajas stopped Miguel Gonzalez of Chile on Dec. 8, 2019 in Puebla, Mexico.
To get ready, Ancajas is training in Magallanes, Cavite.
