In a statement, the government television assured the public that it has corrected the mistake and revised its video on social media pages.

"In line with the recent coverage of the People’s Television Network on the 122nd Independence Day celebration which was aired live on 12 June 2020, a photo of President Emilio Aguinaldo was mistakenly used in a feature intended for Andres Bonifacio," PTV said.

"The said error was already corrected and the revised version will be uploaded in the Network's social media pages. We sincerely apologize for this mistake," it said.

The network also promised to prevent a repeat of the mistake by pursing skills training program for its staff. "Rest assured that under the new PTV management, necessary training and skills development will be initiated to avoid similar inaccuracies. We hope for your understanding on this matter," PTV said.

President Duterte earlier skipped the Independence Day celebration in Manila and instead sent Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to represent him at the Rizal Park. The President's video message on Independence Day was played after the flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony.
