The Department of Health-Eastern Visayas reports 14 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in Region 8.

They will be tagged as Patients EV 77 to EV 90. These came from a total of 185 results released by the Eastern Visayas Regional COVID Testing Center (EVRCTC) on Thursday, June 11. Results also showed 171 are negative.

From the 14 positive results, one is from Tacloban City (Patient EV 77); 12 are from Baybay City (Patients EV 78 to EV 89), and one is from Bontoc, Southern Leyte, tagged as Patient EV 90.

Patient EV 90 is the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Southern Leyte province.

The 12 COVID-19 patients in Baybay City are locally stranded individuals (LSIs) who arrived on June 8 and June 9, along with 48 others.

This brings the total number to 20 COVID-19 cases in the city–the highest active cases in Eastern Visayas. All are not locally-transmitted.

Baybay City Mayor Jose Carlos Cari assured the public that all LSIs were already isolated in their respective barangay quarantine facilities upon arrival in the city.

“Our frontliners are doing their best to transfer these patients in the city’s Ligtas COVID-19 Center in the New Western Leyte Provincial Hospital,” Cari said.
