The University of Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) has developed upgraded swabbing booths for medical frontliners.
In a Facebook post on UP’s official page Friday it was said that a team from UPLB called UPLB Task Force LB Kontra COVID-19 made the upgraded swabbing booths.
The upgraded booths, an article posted in UPLB’s webpage said, addresses the problems on storage, documentation, and mobility.
UPLB recognizes the shortage in supply of medical equipment and materials and the effect it has had on hospitals that are providing services and care for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.
Thus, the team developed the swabbing booths to at least address one particular urgent need.
The booth, according to the article, has a three-section system.
The first section is where the patient is interviewed by a medical technician who records the information.
The second section is where the actual swabbing happens. This section has built-in gloves to protect the health worker.
After this, the sample collected is brought to an unmanned cold storage booth where it will temporarily be stored before it is transferred to a testing center.
