This was disclosed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Cagayan First District Engineering Office (CFDEO), which said the new road will also allow better mobility for locals and tourists exploring the famous Sierra Madre Range at the Northernmost-tip of Luzon.

District Engineer James P. Ferrer said told Officer-in-Charge-Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan that the improved local road will surely attract more tourist and mountaineers to visit the legendary “Mountain Fire”, and its secluded rainforest area where Mount Cagua, an active stratovolcano, is situated.

“Before, the rough condition of roads makes it harder and longer to explore. Upon completion it is expected to ease and lessen the travel time by 30 minutes”, he added.

Ferrer also noted that it will benefit indigenous peoples living in Barangay Sta. Clara to easily access health and education centers, and livelihood opportunities in nearby economic hubs.

The road will also serve as an access route to the emerging tourist destinations in Gonzaga, Cagayan that includes Mausok hotsring, Bagsang falls, Mount Cagua volcano and Mount Cagua summit.
