The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday said the bus routes were trimmed down from 96 to only 31 due to rationalization and the designation of new bus stops.

"Ang ginawa natin, ni-rationalize natin yung ruta. And when we rationalized the routes from 96 to 31, meron na tayong na-identify na mga bus stops. Ibig sabihin hindi katulad ng dati na kung saan na lang bababa at sasakay mga pasahero," LTFRB chairman Martin Delgra III told GMA News.

Bus operators and drivers have been ordered not to load and unload passengers in between the new designated bus stops, he said.

The rationalized bus routes, according to Delgra, will provide more "turnaround trips" which will make it easier for commuters to get a ride.

"Because there are more turnaround trips, mas makakasakay yung mga pasahero ng mas madali. Yun po ang sistema na nilalagay po natin," Delgra told GMA News.

Commuters were also reminded to strictly observe health protocols such as social distancing and the wearing of face masks.

"That is our principal consideration, public health over public transport," Delgra said.

Starting June 1, buses, trains, taxis, and transport network vehicle services (TNVS) units will resume operations under the general community quarantine in Metro Manila.
