Kalinga Provincial Police Office Col. Davy Limmong said Lubuagan police and the military were manning a quarantine checkpoint on Saturday afternoon, May 29, when they flagged down a motorcycle being driven by Rodelio Banosan of Rizal, Kalinga for verification of travel documents.

Limmong said when the suspect alighted from his motorcycle to remove his backpack and get his documents, the police unexpectedly saw a cellophane package with marijuana protruding from it.

One of the police personnel had a knee-jerk reaction upon seeing the stash and shouted “Marijuana”, prompting the suspect to scamper and try to escape by jumping into a ravine. He managed to successfully evade apprehension.

A total of 4.3 kilos dried marijuana leaves in elongated tubular was recovered.

The seized marijuana leaves were transported to the provincial Crime Laboratory Office, Camp Juan m Duyan, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga for confirmatory test, while a manhunt operation has been launched to catch Banosan
