DAVAO CITY – The Chinese Consulate General’s Office here donated P3.5 million to support the City Government of Davao’s program on the distribution of food packs for the families affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak.

Chinese Consul Li Lin handed over the donation to Mayor Sara Duterte on Friday afternoon to purchase food items that will be distributed to the households in various barangays.

Duterte earlier said the biggest chunk of the city government’ P476 million budget received from the Bayahinan Grant went to food for COVID-19 responders and food rations that totaled 788,656 food packs as of May 8 since the food ration started last March 23.

Lin added that China was willing to cooperate with Davao and other local government units in Mindanao in the reopening and revitalizing of its economy, which has been stalled by the COVID-19 outbreak.

He said infrastructure cooperation between China and the Philippines on the Davao-Samal Bridge, expressway, and river bridge may create jobs for the locals.
