President Duterte will announce before the weekend whether or not to shift Metro Manila to general community quarantine, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said Wednesday.
DILG Secretary Eduardo Año, in an interview over DZMM Teleradyo, the inter-agency task force will finalize its lockdown recommendations for Duterte on Wednesday.
Año expects the President to decide on the matter on May 28 up to Friday (May 29).
Ano said Metro Manila Council (MMC) composed of the Metro Manila mayors want only one type of quarantine to be imposed across the whole Metro Manila.
He, however, said localized lockdowns may still be implemented should the Metro Manila transitions to GCQ.
Metro Manila accounts for 33 percent of the gross domestic product (GNP) in the country which will be under quarantine up to May 31.
With the relaxed quarantine protocols, Año in an interview over ABS-CBN said the economy will be reinvigorated as select industries will be allowed to operate.
The DILG noted that a more relaxed general community quarantine (GCQ) will allow almost all industries to operate with the exception of amusement centers and those with mass gatherings. (With a report from Chito Chavez)
