Governors slighted with doctor's comment

The President of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) said that their group is asking for an apology from a doctor who pointed out the alleged ignorance of local government units (LGUs) which refuse to allow repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to return home.

The League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP) has asked President Duterte to immediately implement the Supreme Court (SC) decision which ruled that the internal revenue allotment (IRA) of local government units (LGUs) should be based on the collections of all national taxes. In an interview Wednesday over GMA-7’s Dobol B sa News TV, LPP president Marinduque Governor Presbitero Velasco said: “Medyo sumama po ang loob ng maraming local government officials. (Many local government officials were a bit hurt by the comment).”

Velasco was referring to the comment made by Dr. Minguita Padilla.

Padilla reportedly made the comment during a televised meeting with President Duterte and the Interagency Task Force (IATF).

“That’s why I think — I think it’s ignorance only on the part of the LGUs eh. They don’t understand you know,” reportedly said.

Padilla is spearheading Project ARK (Antibody Rapid Test Kit) which is a private sector initiative which aims to promote mass testing.

After the comment though, Padilla even offered to give a lecture on the matter, through Zoom, for LGUs to be more informed about it.

Velasco, in a previous interview asked the Department of Health (DOH) to ensure that patients coming from quarantine facilities are indeed negative for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) before allowing them to return home.
