A scholar of Muntinlupa is using his allowance to provide relief packs to families affected by lockdown.

Jarred Gaviola, a grade 9 student of Muntinlupa Science High School, recalled how his initiative started.

“I decided to use my scholarship because I saw many people in need, a lot of people on the street were waiting for help. There are a lot of families who are starving because of what’s happening in our country,” Gaviola told Manila Bulletin.

At first, Gaviola said he just bought milk packs and coffee sachets, until he eventually had to open his own donation drive to help more people.

“Because for me, there are many people who are hungry and needing food. They need more care as time goes by,” he added.

The scholar said the distribution started on May 9.

Gaviola was able to give assorted relief packs to 100 families in Barangay Tunasan and Barangay Bayanan. He also distributed pastries to 60 frontline healthcare workers and policemen.

“Beyond the call of duty to serve others, [our frontliners] demonstrated how people can still choose kindness and compassion. From the bottom of my heart, I salute [them] for [their] service.”
