PALO, Leyte – Seven people died and two others were hurt in a shooting incident in Calbayog City, a report from Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) based in Camp Ruperto Kangleon, Campetic, this town, said here on Thursday.
Lt. Col. Ma. Bella Rentuaya, PRO-8 regional information officer, told the Manila Bulletin that the shooting incident took place at about 5 p.m. on May 19, 2020, in Purok 1, barangay Gadgaran, Calbayog City.
Rentuaya reported that the suspect, identified as Glenn Balonan, of legal age, an alleged ex-army and a resident of barangay Gadgaran, went amok and started shooting, leading to the killing of six people.
Rentuaya identified the six victims, all from Calbayog City, as Vicente Lozano, 66; Jalita Ramada; Jimmy Jadulco, 45; Carlo Saldania, 28; Gary Saldania, 34; and Leopoldo Molat, 64.
Wounded were Humphrey Tacaldo, 54, and Janine Bareto, 34, both residents of Calbayog City.
Police authorities in Calbayog City who responded at the crime scene were also fired at by the suspect. Balonan died during the firefight.
Initial investigation conducted by the police showed that the suspect was drunk and for no apparent reason, started running around the neighborhood and firing at bystanders.
