BACOLOD CITY – An explosion occurred near the house of a village councilor in barangay Lina-on, Cauayan, Negros Occidental Thursday night.
Maj. Lowell Garinganao, town police chief, said that three gunshots were heard first before the explosion occurred past 9 p.m.
Garinganao said that an unidentified man allegedly threw a hand grenade beside the highway, just a few meters from the house of Kagawad Policronio Tabu-Tabu, who was having a drinking session with some of his friends inside his house earlier that night.
They immediately called the assistance of the Army’s 15th Infantry Battalion and the police.
“They were probably so loud that it caused disturbance to others which may triggered the incident,” the town police chief said.
Garinganao said that no one saw who threw the grenade.
He said that Tabu-Tabu had no threats to his life which could be linked to the explosion.
The police chief also noted that, while the province was under general community quarantine (GCQ), this only prohibited drinking liquor in public places, and not inside the house.
No injury or damage to property was reported.
