Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco has encouraged his constituents to download a Philippine Red Cross (PRC) mobile application, which will inform them if they are in possible risk of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) infection.
Tiangco, in a video message uploaded on his Facebook account, called on the residents of the city to install RC143 in their mobile phones, saying they should take advantage of the technology to keep them safe and healthy from the disease.
“Our city government continues to look for ways to protect you from COVID-19. One of these is providing you a tool that lets you know if you are in danger of contracting the disease and how you should respond,” he said.
The said application lets users know if they are at risk of catching the virus by informing them if there are COVID-19 patients nearby or which areas are COVID-19 hotspots.
RC143 also tells its users if they have interacted with other application users who eventually tested positive for COVID-19.
“The app also boosts our contact tracing capability. Currently, we depend on interviews with patients to determine with whom they [have] had interactions. Through RC143, we will be able to trace users who have been in close proximity with a COVID-positive patient,” Tiangco said.
“The app is free. Download it and always bring your phone with you. Make sure your Bluetooth, wifi, or data is turned on but don’t worry, using the app will not affect your load balance,” he added.
For the meantime, RC143 is only available for Android phone users while the app’s developers are still working to make it also available on iOS phones.
